Martha's Vineyard Sail By

Our itinerary called for a day in Martha's Vineyard, MA.  It was a tendering port and unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate.  It was quite windy and the ship was moving too much to risk trying to tender passengers (especially those of us of a certain age) so after we arrived and assessed the situation,  the Captain made the decision to depart.  Ah well, a sea day at the beginning isn't a bad thing.  The entertainment staff scrambled and came up with things for the passengers to do all day.  They had a new schedule printed and distributed within an hour.  Amazing.

Here are a few photos of our cabin:

For those of us on the Grand Voyage, Regent makes fancy cabin markers.

After breakfast at La Veranda, we went to a lecture by Diana Preston called "Willful Murder? - The 1915 Sinking of the Lusitania" which was quite good.  Lunch at the Compass Rose where we saw Mark again and when Michael told him it was our Anniversary, he got us a reservation at Prime 7 (the reservation only steakhouse).  Then we ran into Jeremy again.  He reminds us of our grandson, Reagan, so I had to get another picture to send to Anna.  Jeremy remembered us as well, probably because not many passengers say he reminds them of their grandson!  It's in the sleepy eyes and the impish smile.

Terry Bishop, the lecturer/entertainer, is on this cruise with us again which is lucky because he is really fun and informative.  This afternoon he and some of the staff performed a play he wrote about the events leading up to the Revolutionary War in Boston (our next port).  Of course, it culminated with the Boston Tea Party.  After it was over, the Cruise Director Ray Solaire, an Englishman who had played King George III, announced that it was time for the regular afternoon tea service in Galileo's Lounge which got a laugh.  He said we have to get the money back somehow!

All day we've been sailing in thick fog with the ship's fog horn going.  Not my favorite thing.  Once in a while we could see the horizon, but for the most part it was no visibility.

The Captain had a little welcome reception for the Grand Voyagers to thank us for being here, which was nice.  He said a few words and Terry Bishop did a few songs.  Our diner at Prime 7 was fantastic.  The service was as good as the food.  They brought a special dessert and sang to us, which was sweet.

And before I close, I want to send a big shout out to our niece, Laura Passaglia McCarthy, who was just elected Superior Court Judge in Sonoma County, California.  Congratulations Laura!!
