Reykjavik, Iceland (Day 2)

Today's tour was to the Blue Lagoon.  We did that years ago when we were here on a cruise and found it fun.  It's a 45-minute ride southwest out of town.  The land that way is pretty much all lava and desolate.  Again the lupine is growing everywhere, even amongst the lava. I tried to get a photo, but it's a bit blurry due to the speed of the bus.  The moss here was a darker gray/green because it doesn't get as much rain.

The Blue Lagoon is a man-made warm water spa using natural geothermally heated water.  It contains natural salts and minerals that are supposed to be very good for the skin.  Apparently it's some combination of silica and algae that gives it the distinctive blue color.  You check-in to get your electronic wristband which operates your locker and you can use to make purchases.  The water is warm but not as warm as a hot tub, and only about 3-4 feet deep.  Today was very windy so we had to move around to find a more sheltered location.  The warmth of the water really changes as you move around. They recommend you remove jewelry, especially silver, and don't wear glasses as the salt is not good for them.  There's a swim-up bar and steam baths and saunas. We had about an hour in the water and there's something about it that really wears you out so that was plenty of time.

We just relaxed back in the cabin after our late lunch.  One of us actually took a nap.  Then a pre-dinner cocktail at the Stars Lounge before dinner at Compass Rose.  There was no sharing table available, so it was just the two of us.  There are lots of new faces on board.  We sail tonight at 10 pm, but I expect we will be off in dreamland by then.
