In the original itinerary, we were to have returned to Bruges for the day. However, Amsterdam made changes to our departure time due to lock controls, so we sailed at 3:00 am instead of at 7:00 pm last night which meant we wouldn't make it to Bruges. Since we were just there a few days ago, it wasn't too disappointing. Before we even sailed in June, the itinerary had been changed to eliminate the 3 Russian ports. Since we've sailed we've had more changes.
- missed Martha's Vineyard due to bad weather on June 8
- added Saint Pierre, France (island below Newfoundland) on June 15
- missed Nuuk, Greenland due to bad weather on June 17
- missed Paamiut, Greenland due to bad weather on June 18
- missed cruising the Prince Kristian Fjord, Greenland due to bad weather on June 19
- added Akuyuri, Iceland on June 20
- missed Eskifjordur, Iceland due to bad weather on June 25
- missed Ronne, Denmark due to bad weather on July 14
- missed Visby, Sweden due to bad weather on July 15
- missed Newcastle, England due to a delay in Edinburgh departure on August 8
- missed the second call into Bruges due to the Amsterdam departure time change on August 13
So far we've missed 8 ports and a fjord sailing and added 2 new ports. Mostly the problems have been because we are a smaller ship sometimes going to smaller places and as a result are subject more to weather conditions. Captain Luksa explained that this ship doesn't have all the thrusters of larger ships so relies a bit more on tugs and better weather.
This morning I went to a lecture by Sir David Durie about Joan of Arc. He wasn't the best I've heard (kept saying Charles VI when his slides said Charles VII and a couple of the slides had wrong dates), but I did learn more about Joan of Arc, so it was worth it.
We missed Trivia because my phone/watch automatically switched the time when we entered into UK time so we were late. We had dinner at Prime 7 which was great as usual. I went to check out the show, a saxophonist, but left after a bit because jazz isn't my thing. Tonight we do turn our clocks back an hour as my watch wanted to do earlier.
