At Sea

This was the last of the 4 day run across the Atlantic before we arrive at Bermuda tomorrow.  We managed to avoid the worst of Hurricane Danielle, only getting some clouds and swells one day.  Today was very calm.

We did a whole lot of nothing today.  The only excitement was that I was at the Medical Office when they opened at 8:00 am due to a UTI.  The symptoms came on yesterday and didn't get any better.  After a quick confirming test, the doc gave me some antibiotics and off I went.

The morning lecture was on the history of Bermuda.  One fun thing I learned is that the US motto: E Pluribus Unum (from many, one) came from Rome.  The writers of the time went around visiting the farmers who were making revolt noises in an effort to show them that they were important.  The farmers offered them wine and cheese balls.  These cheese balls were made from many kinds of cheese rolled together and ended up being one delicious cheese.  (See where I'm going with this?)  The writers used this phrase in their writings and it caught on.  So the phrase E Pluribus Unum refers to a cheese recipe if you will, and that is now our motto.

The afternoon lecture was about the marriage of Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller.  Mr. Rivellino is very thorough and enjoyable.  According to him, Marilyn and Joe Dimaggio had plans to remarry.  And she had just signed a new contract with the movie studio for $1 million and wrote to a friend a few days before her death that this was the happiest she had been in a very long time.  Mmmmhhh.

Trivia was our usual.  We ordered room service and watched a couple of movies:  Dad's Army and The Good German.  That should be enough about WWII for a while, but they were both enjoyable.
